Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR) Guidelines

NIH requires use of the RPPR module in eRA Commons to submit ALL annual progress reports

Progress reports are required annually to document grantee accomplishments and compliance with terms of award. They describe scientific progress, identify significant changes, report on personnel, and describe plans for the subsequent budget period or year.

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has mandated that Federal agencies implement a Federal-wide research performance progress report (RPPR) for submission of required annual or other interim performance reporting on research grant and cooperative agreement awards to standardize recipient reporting on Federally-funded research projects.

Effective July 15, 2023

Please take a moment to review the new RPPR Procedures.

If there are errors in the RPPR, the Analyst will contact the administrative unit to work through any issues. Administrative units are responsible for all late RPPR submissions.
When the RPPR is free of errors and is ready to be submitted, select Route to Next Reviewer, then select your department’s designated Pre-Award Analyst. If you do not know who your department’s designated Analyst is, please reach out to xenia@ucdenver.edu.
Commons will notify OGC that the RPPR is ready for review. Pre-Award Specialists will verify completion of COI and will notify departments if any personnel are non-compliant.
Once COI is complete, the Analyst will review the RPPR. If there are no errors, OGC will submit the RPPR.
If there are errors in the RPPR, the Analyst will contact the administrative unit to work through any issues. Administrative units are responsible for all late RPPR submissions.

An auto-notification is sent to the Principal Investigator via email from eRA Commons 120 calendar days prior to the RPPR due date
1. This email will contain the RPPR due date
The RPPR due date is always available on the 'Status Information' page in eRA Commons
Streamline Non Competing Award Process (SNAP) RPPR – Due 45 calendar days prior to the start of the next budget period
Non-SNAP RPPR – Due 60 calendar days prior to the start of the next budget period
Fellowship RPPR – Due 60 calendar days prior to the start of the next or per due date included in the Notice of Award (NOA)
AHRQ RPPR – Due 90 days prior to the start of the next budget period
Multi-Year RPPR – Due on the anniversary date of the project start date
1. Multi-Year RPPRs do not need to be formally routed to the Office of Grants and Contracts
2. RPPR must be reviewed by OGC prior to submission via eRA Commons
3. Send notification to eapp.xenia@ucdenver.edu that RPPR is ready to be reviewed no later than 5 business days prior to the sponsor due date
  1. Provide the routing number with email notification
4. OGC reviewer will notify department of any necessary corrections
5. RPPR will be submitted once finalized and free of errors
Use business days for application due date when routing. If the RPPR due date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the due date falls to the falls to the next business day
