Consultations

The Biosafety Program provides guidance in selecting the correct autoclave cycle for particular research material or waste, and validating the cycle to meet national standards and best practices.

EHS personnel pick up red and yellow waste tubs from the linear equipment hallways in the research towers Monday - Friday, except on holidays. Other research facilities have regular pickups scheduled according to the amount of waste generated. Tubs are supplied and picked up by a contracted vendor and must meet packaging standards by the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. An empty tub is left in the hallway for every tub picked up. Researchers must correctly tie the inner bags in the tubs to meet these packaging standards.

Contact the Biowaste Disposal Program, 303-724-0111, to schedule in-person waste triage group training. Red biowaste step-cans with self-closing lids are offered to the lab following completion of the training.

Special pick-ups can be scheduled for such projects as a freezer clean-out or termination of research by contacting the Biowaste Disposal Program, 303-724-0111.

In instances requiring the signature of the Biological Safety Officer, call Biological Safety at 303-724-0345.
Contact the Biosafety Program, 303-724-0111, with questions on shipping biological materials. EHS has shipping labels and sometimes can assist in finding the appropriate packaging, as well as assisting with sorting out the red-tape of permits.  EHS can also assist in preparing for a laboratory inspection by a permitting agency, such as the Centers for Disease Control or the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
