Federal, state, and local regulations which define Regulated Medical Waste (RMW), and govern how it is handled, decontaminated and disposed of.

Those who work with

  • animal or human tissues or cell cultures
  • recombinant nucleic acids
  • infectious agents or pathogens
  • viral vectors
  • sharps (i.e. needles, scalpels, microscope slides)
  • chemotherapeutic chemicals/drugs
  • toxins

must know how to separate RMW from trash, and how to properly prepare it for disposal.

Training



Skillsoft Regulated Medical Waste Management training is required of those working with RMW.

In-person "Let's Talk Trash" group training may be arranged by contacting Biological Safety.
