Established in 2025, Highlighted Topic Areas help investigators identify emerging NIH priorities and align their research with high-interest scientific areas. Researchers can submit investigator-initiated proposals through existing NIH funding opportunities while engaging early with program officers to ensure alignment and strengthen application competitiveness.
