HIPAA Training

Who needs to be hip to HIPAA?

All members of the CU Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus community with access to individually identifiable health information or that work in a University of Colorado Designated Health Care Component (APS 5055); need to be "hip to HIPAA" – the federal law that requires us to protect patient confidentiality. This includes research subjects.

CU: HIPAA Regulations - CU Anschutz and CU Denver Skillsoft Course

This training is mandatory for most of the CU Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus workforce.

This is an annual requirement due each fiscal year (July 1st through June 30th). All covered employees must complete every fiscal year.

As a faculty member, employee, student, trainee or volunteer (or a faculty member who bills through CU Medicine), you should complete this training within 30 days of hire and annually per fiscal year thereafter.

  • New hires must complete HIPAA training within 30 days of their hire date
  • All covered employees must re-complete every fiscal year (July 1-June 30)

Access HIPAA training online. Here's how: 

  1. Start by visiting my.cu.edu (new window)
  2. Choose the "CU Denver | CU Anschutz" campus tile
  3. Sign in with your credentials, and click the "Skillsoft" tile
  4. Type "HIPAA" into the "Search Content" box at top-right (hit return on your keyboard)
  5. Click the black "Launch" button for "CU: HIPAA Regulations - CU Anschutz and CU Denver" custom course (approximately 30 minutes)
