Radiation Safety Training

People working in the labs must obtain Radiation Worker Certification by successfully completing two classes, best undertaken sequentially:

Radiation Worker Initial Safety Training - Part I (in Skillsoft online)

Radiation Worker Training - Part II (in person)

After that, workers can renew their certification annually with the Radiation Safety Refresher course.  Find links and details below.

The Radiation Safety Training Manual is available as a study guide to prepare for Radiation Safety Initial Training, Rad Worker Training - Part II, and PI RAM Module.

Radiation Worker Training

The course covers basic radiation physics, instrumentation, biological effects of ionizing radiation, radiation protection principles and radioactive waste, among other topics.

Log into my.cu.edu for your campus, then click the Skillsoft tile. From there, you can search for "Radiation Safety Initial Training" and register.

This is an instructor-led training reviewing Part 1 topics, plus use and selection of instrumentation, radioactivity calculations, decay concept, overview of RAM use in the lab setting, and recommendations for record-keeping.

Each attendee must bring a scientific calculator (smartphones are acceptable) and reserve enough time to complete the exam (most finish in 45 minutes-1 hour).
