Cardiovascular Mechanisms of Exercise Intolerance in Diabetes and the Role of Sex

We are studying the effects of a 15-week exercise program on men and women between the ages of 30-55 both with and without type 2 diabetes. We are recruiting individuals with a BMI between 30-40 who are currently doing less than 1 hour per week of exercise.

STAR Study

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is conducting a research study to evaluate treatment options for adolescents with co-occurring trauma and substance use. This study aims to compare two evidence-based and integrative treatments, Risk Reduction Through Family Therapy (RRFT) and Encompass.

Eligibility:

• Age 13-18.
• Has experienced trauma.
• Has used substances like alcohol or marijuana in the past month.

Research on Computer Training to Help with Mood

This study plans to learn more about a promising new treatment for irritability in adolescents. This new treatment is called Interpretation Bias Training. It uses a computer to show adolescents pictures of face emotions. The goal of this study is to test whether the training program that targets hostile emotional responses will be successful at treating irritability.

Eligibility:

• Between the ages of 13 and 17 years.
• No serious medical issues.
• Currently in mental health treatment.

Volunteers Needed for Research Study on PTSD-Associated Nightmares and Cardiovascular Health

The purpose of this research study is to see if we can improve sleep quality and heart health by reducing nightmares related to PTSD. We are recruiting individuals who experience PTSD-associated nightmares to participate in a research study to help us understand if improving sleep quality by reducing the impact of nightmares can improve cardiovascular health.

Seeking Volunteers for Research on Social Anxiety

We are studying the way in which learning style affects how people with social anxiety respond to therapy. Participants in this study will be able to access 12 free, evidence-based therapy sessions for social anxiety and complete two brain scans in an MRI.

Eligibility:

• Are female/designated female at birth.
• Are between 18-25 years old.
• Have not had any children.
• Experience social anxiety.

The American Lung Association (ALA) Lung Health Cohort

Inclusion Criteria:

• 25 to 35 years old at time of examination.
• Able to read and understand English or Spanish.
• Have a social security number.

Exclusion Criteria:

• Severe asthma or other chronic lung disease.
• Diagnosed cardiovascular diseases (e.g., congenital heart disease, coronary heart disease).
• History of cancer other than non-melanoma skin cancer.
• Currently pregnant.

Phase II Trial to Evaluate Safety and Efficacy of GM-CSF/Sargramostim in Alzheimer's Disease (SESAD)

This research study aims to learn more about the safety and effectiveness of a drug called sargramostim for improving cognitive function and memory in people with Alzheimer's disease. Participants will be asked to participate in weekly visits for 24 weeks (6 months), as well as screening and follow-up visits that include cognitive testing, twice weekly blood draws, heart tracing (ECG), health questionnaires, study partner questionnaires, lumbar puncture (spinal tap), MRI, PET scan and treatment/placebo injection 5x a week during the treatment phase. Health insurance is not needed for this study: study-related care and medication at no cost and compensation provided.

Eligibility:

• Be between 60-80 years old.
• Have a diagnosis of mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease (AD).
• Willing and able to have a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) and twice weekly blood draws.
• Have a study partner willing to give daily injections after training.

How Does COVID-19 Affect the Aging Brain? Research Study Investigates Aging, Memory, and Immune Function

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus examining how inflammation influences memory and thinking. Data gathered from this study will be used to better understand how inflammation and COVID-19 exposure impact brain health and aging outcomes. Participation involves two research visits over the course of two years. Procedures Include Memory and thinking tests, Health history questionnaires, Blood sample, Spinal fluid sample, MRI of brain, SARS-CoV-2 antibody test(results provided).

Eligibility:

• 60 years or older.
• In good general health.
• Have NOT been diagnosed with a memory disorder.
• Recovered from COVID-19 or never tested positive for COVID-19.

ImTAB: Immunity, mTBI, and Alzheimer's Biomarkers

We are looking for interested adults to participate in a research study examining how a concussion sustained later in life relates to inflammation and brain health. This study involves 2 research visits: a baseline and a one year follow-up visit at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Optional review of memory scores with principal investigator after completion of 1 year follow up visit. Compensation provided. PI: Brianne M Bettcher. Each study requires Health History Review, Neurological Exam, Thinking and memory tests, Blood Sample and Brain MRI.

Eligibility:

• 65 years or older.
• In good general health.
• Have had a concussion within the past 5 years, but not within the past 6 months.
• Have proof of concussion via medical professional.
• Have not been diagnosed with a memory disorder.

Sex Hormone and Vascular Function in Women with Chronic Kidney Disease vs. Healthy Women

Healthy postmenopausal women volunteers needed for research investigating sex hormones and vascular function. Compensation will be provided.
