How Does Inflammation Affect the Aging Brain? Research Study Investigates Aging, Memory, and Immune Function

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is looking for interested adults 60 and over to participate in a research study examining how inflammation influences brain health. Data gathered from this study will be used to better understand how inflammation may or may not disrupt thinking and memory.

Skeletal Response to Simulated Night Shift (SPOTLIGHT Study)

Eligibility:

  • Healthy men and women aged 20-40 years old.
  • Habitually sleep 7-9 hours/night.
  • Have not done night shift work in the past year.
  • Do not currently smoke.
  • Fully vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2

The Influence of Combined Oral Contraceptives on Weight: A 6-month Observational Study

Evaluate changes in body weight, body composition, eating behaviors, and appetite in pre-menopausal women with overweight or obesity who are starting the Sprintec birth control pill compared to women who remain on non-hormonal methods of contraception.
Eligibility:

  • Female
  • 18-40 years old
  • BMI between 25-45
  • Generally healthy
  • Not currently a hormonal form of birth control and willing to start and continue the Sprintec pill for 6 months

Volunteers Needed for Research Study on Heart Health After Pregnancy

We are recruiting women with a body mass index greater than 25 kg/m2 who had a baby 1-5 years ago to participate in a research study on health after pregnancy. 
Eligibility:

  • Aged 18-45 years 
  • History of a healthy pregnancy 1-5 years earlier 
  • Non-smoking 
  • Not currently taking medications to treat high blood pressure or cholesterol 
  • Not currently pregnant or wishing to become pregnant in the next three months

Shingles Vaccine Research Study Persons Age 50 And Older

The University of Colorado Anschutz is conducting a research study to learn more about how shingles vaccines prevent shingles. Researchers want to learn more about how shingles vaccines prevent shingles and are looking for people who have never had shingles and received a Shingles Vaccine (either Zostavax or Shingrix) 5 or more years ago.

Enhancing Skeletal Adaptations to Exercise by Attenuating the Acute Disruption of Calcium Homeostasis During Exercise

The purpose of this study is to determine how endurance exercise training impacts certain bone markers in the blood. The information we gain from this study will be used to help design future exercise programs for osteoporosis prevention, therapy, and improve outcomes for Veterans who are at risk for osteoporosis.

Stressful Perceived Experiences on RNA in Men (SPERM) Study

This study plans to learn more about how environmental factors such as stress and stressful events affect the physical and genetic characteristics of human sperm.

Colorado Pulmonary Alcohol Research Consortium

We are looking for volunteers to serve as control subjects to be compared to people who drink heavily in a research project that examines substances collected from inside the lungs. Main Procedures Involved:

  • Thorough pulmonary evaluation by a lung physician by physical exam, chest x-ray, spirometry, and bronchoscopy.
  • Routine blood lab work & pregnancy tests will be performed. Duration of Participation: A single study visit from 7 AM to 12 PM on a weekday. Participants will need a negative COVID test 3-5 days before their visit.

Comparison on Exercise Mode on Disruptions in Calcium Homeostasis

The purpose of this study is to determine if different types of exercise (stationary cycling versus walking on a treadmill) impact certain bone markers in the blood respond to exercise. The information we gain from this study will be used to help design future exercise programs for osteoporosis prevention, therapy, and improve outcomes for Veterans who are at risk for osteoporosis. Volunteers for this study must be Veterans who are at least 60 years old and in generally good health. They must be used to regular exercise lasting at least 1 hour, not currently taking osteoporosis medication, and have no history of diabetes or cardiovascular disease.

SESAD – Alzheimer’s Clinical Trial

The purpose of this research study is to learn more about the safety and effectiveness of a drug called sargramostim for improving cognitive function and memory in people with Alzheimer’s disease.
