Special Announcements

NIH UNITE Initiative

NIH launched the UNITE initiative in March of 2021 to address structural racism in the biomedical research enterprise.

Through this initiative, NIH is holding a series of listening sessions to learn from external stakeholders about the full range of issues and challenges in advancing racial and ethnic equity in the biomedical research enterprise. Some of these issues include:

  • Changing culture to promote equity, inclusivity, and justice
  • Improving policies, transparency, and oversight
  • Strengthening career pathways, training, mentoring, and the professoriate
  • Ensuring fairness in review and funding deliberations
  • Enhancing funding and research support for diverse institutions and historically under-resourced research areas
  • Structural racism in the biomedical research enterprise

The insights shared during these listening sessions will help to identify priorities for UNITE and inform the development of an NIH action plan.

Please register today and use the schedule of listening sessions below to find a session that best aligns with your affiliation.

  • Tuesday, January 18, 2022; 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. ET; Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs), Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Advocacy Organizations

American Cancer Society - Institutional Research Grant (ACS-IRG) Seed Grant Funding - 2022

The purpose of this grant program is to support the development of exceptional research projects that will help lead to the conquest of cancer and will further the objectives of the CU Cancer Center.

Studies in all areas of cancer research - laboratory, clinical, prevention and control, and psychosocial cancer research - will be considered for funding.

ACS IRG Grants aim to entice young faculty to pursue cancer-related research problems and are reserved for applicants who are in their first few years as junior faculty members (instructors and assistant professors) and who are in the process of establishing independent cancer research programs.

Questions regarding the ACS-IRG seed grants and application should be directed to Paige Diller.

All applications should be submitted here. Paper applications will not be accepted or reviewed.

Each award is for 1 year in the amount of $30,000.

Application Due Date: Monday, January 31, 2022

The Mountain & Plains Education and Research Center (MAP ERC) Pilot Project Awards, and the Total Worker Health® Pilot Project Awards are offering pilot project funding opportunities

The MAP ERC awards support projects that address traditional occupational safety and health topics such as ergonomics, safety, industrial hygiene, toxicology, among others. The Total Worker Health awards support projects that address both protection from work-related safety and health hazards and promotion of injury and illness prevention.

The grants are designed to help early-career investigators jump-start their careers and allow for more established researchers from other disciplines to enter the field.

More information about Pilot Project Awards

Applications for the current funding cycle are due March 31, 2022.

The Surgical/Subspecialist Clinical Outcomes Research Fellowship (SCORE) Fellowship & The CCTSI Clinical Faculty Scholars Program (CFSP) are recruiting interested scholars for their July 2021 cohorts.

Both two-year research training programs are designed for early career investigators looking to obtain training and mentorship in clinical-outcomes research and each program requires sponsorship from the participating scholar’s department/division.

The programs are similar in their structure, training and mentoring processes.

A primary difference between the programs is where scholars tend to be in their research careers. SCORE fellows tend to be those who need additional analytic support, research training and/or preliminary work prior to submitting their first major grant. CFSP scholars are typically those who already have advanced research training (e.g. have a master’s or PhD degree) and are ready to write a career development award or similar grant.

  • SCORE: Application deadline is March 15, 2021
  • CFSP: Application deadline is March 19, 2021

Contact Rebecca (Becca) Speer or the Program Director: Stacie Daugherty, MD, MSPH for any questions about SCORE.

For questions regarding CFSP contact Kathleen Spindle or the Program Director: Anne Libby, PhD.
