The Junction: Shared Workspace

Financial Services | Budget & Strategy | Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research

As the campus transitions to a hybrid work model, this guidance outlines expectations and Best Practices for using The Junction space in the Fitzsimons Building at the University of Colorado Anschutz to support collaboration, flexibility and efficient space utilization.

In-Person Work Expectations

  • Due to space limitations, each team is expected to have employees in the office at least 2 days per week instead of the minimum of three days for most other campus teams.
  • Specific in-person expectations may vary by team and individual work needs. Please speak with your supervisor if you have questions or concerns.
  • To support predictability and collaboration, some teams may choose to designate at least one standard in-office day

Examples:

  • COMIRB is in-office every Tuesday.
  • Budget & Strategy is in-office every Wednesday, with recurring team meetings scheduled.

Core Working Hours

To support commute flexibility while maintaining collaboration:

  • Employees may adjust their in‑person schedules to arrive earlier or leave later, helping them avoid peak commute periods.
  • However, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. have been set as the core overlapping work hours to help achieve more in-person collaboration.

Please coordinate with your supervisor to determine your schedule.

Scheduling Guidance

  • EMS is the room scheduling online app.
  • Schedule your in-person days no more than one week in advance.
  • If you scheduled a space but will no longer use that space on the scheduled day, please cancel your reservation so that the space becomes available for others to use.
  • Solution or Small Team Meeting Rooms: The small team meeting rooms in the Junction and in the 1st floor west hallway (W1113 and W1116) are intended for impromptu, short-term use by small groups. It is not designed to be scheduled in advance and should remain available for spontaneous collaboration or quick discussions. To preserve its availability for team interactions:
    • Do not use this space as a personal workspace.
    • Avoid long-term or recurring use by individuals.
    • Please be courteous and limit time in the room to ensure others have access when needed.

Restrooms, Break Rooms, Kitchen Areas and Campus Dining Options

    • There are three restrooms on the 1st floor: two women's and one men's.
    • There is a gender-neutral restroom outside of the 2nd floor entrance.
    • Break rooms/kitchen areas are located on the first and second floors. You may use either area, but please remember that the 2nd floor break room is shared with other departments. Please be mindful of others and review the etiquette below:
      • Wipe countertops and tables after use (cleaning supplies are under the sink)
      • Clean microwave if dirty after use (inside and outside)
      • Label items kept in refrigerator with name and date; dispose in a timely manner.
      • If you find spoiled or moldy items in plastic “labeled” containers, let the person know so they can clean and/or dispose of it. If it is not labeled, throw out the container.
      • Be sure you take your own lunch/items out of the refrigerator and not someone else’s.
    • CU Anschutz offers a wide variety of dining options on campus.

    Facilities Housekeeping Schedule

    • Trash will be collected three (3) times per week, typically on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
    • Vacuuming will take place one (1) time per week on Tuesdays or Thursdays.
    • If trash or vacuuming needs arise outside of these times, please email Dispatch or call 303-724-1777.
