Exposure Guidance

Emergency situations 

Call 911 or go to the closest urgent care facility or hospital emergency department.   


For exposures involving bloodborne pathogens or potentially infectious materials 

Call the UCHealth Infectious Disease/Travel Clinic, 720-848-0191. The clinic is located in the UCHealth Anschutz Outpatient Pavillion.   


Skin or eye exposure to a chemical 

Rinse the affected area in a sink, safety shower, or emergency eyewash for at least 15 minutes. Provide a copy of the involved chemical's Safety Data Sheet (SDS) to the healthcare provider.

For contamination with radioactive materials, notify the responders and/or providers of contamination. 

Outside Business Hours

Visit the closest urgent care facility or emergency department.

Non-Emergency Exposures

Seek treatment from a Designated Medical Provider.​

For all exposures: file a claim​ with University Risk Management within four working days. 

IMPORTANT: for any incidents involving biological hazards (e.g., recombinant DNA, microorganisms, human-derived materials, or other potentially infectious materials, fill out the Incident Report Form for Biological Hazards within 24 hours.
